After being officially launched on 9 December 2010, the European Charter for Health Equity will be open for signatures for a year (end 2011). We invite all relevant stakeholders, organisations and institutions to sign the Charter. We count on your active involvement! We have just over 160 signatories on our list of supporters!

Further to launch of the European Charter for Health Equity in December 2010, and having collected more than 130 signatures from various multi-level and multi-sectoral stakeholders, EPHA is launching a consultation process on Policy Recommendations for Health Equity. In the framework of participatory process, we aim at delivering comprehensive and cross-sectoral messages for reducing health inequalities through focusing on social determinants of health.

The WHO European Office for Investment for Health and Development, together with the Ministry of Health and the Veneto Region in Italy, published a report on ‘The impact of health and health behaviors on educational outcomes in high-income countries: a review of the evidence’.

In its new report on family well-being, the OECD acknowledges Europe’s changing society, and gives particular attention to the role of families, not only in the EU, but in all OECD countries.

In December 2010, the European Council adopted a Council Declaration closing the European Year 2010 on combating poverty and social exclusion in the European Union. EPHA called for health inequalities to be taken into account. EPHA regrets that the public health dimension of the declaration is very weak.

The Citizens’ Agora represents a direct link between the European Parliament and European citizens.
