Joint letter I Proposals for a ‘Farm to Fork’ strategy for sustainable food systems

30+ civil society organisations, including EPHA, outline joint priorities for the EU ‘Farm to Fork’ strategy.

In the letter, signatories welcome the Farm to Fork initiative, stressing the opportunity it provides to drive a real transition to sustainable food systems.

Today’s food system is pushing societies across ‘planetary boundaries’, driving diet-related diseases and failing to deliver decent livelihoods in the EU and beyond. The potential benefits of transition are enormous. Food sustainability is also at the heart of the unprecedented demands for change made by Europeans.

Among the priorities highlighted in the letter is the need to support a transition to healthy, more plant-rich diets with fewer and better animal products. This can be achieved by creating enabling ‘food environments’, a call that was also made in an earlier letter sent to the European Commission by several leading health organisations.
