Joint Statement I Reform of European Agricultural Policies: Good Food, Good Farming – Now

EPHA supports statement signed by over 150 organisations in Europe, demanding a thorough reform of the EU Common Agricultural Policy (CAP).  The process towards a CAP post-2020 is the main opportunity to reinvent the role of agriculture in Europe, aligning it with the Sustainable Development Goals, the Paris Agreement on climate change and the need to integrate health considerations into all public policies.

The food and agricultural system should deliver fair and diverse food and farming economies, contribute to a healthy environment with respect for animal welfare, support citizens’ health and well-being, and be publicly accountable.

The process towards a new policy needs to be inclusive, giving full recognition to the wide-ranging impacts of agriculture on societies. Decisions on the future of agricultural policy cannot remain in the hands of agricultural ministries only.
