EPHA joined the European Disability Forum’s ‘Freedom of Movement’ campaign.
The campaign has been launched to highlight the fact that although the right to freedom of movement, and the right to free movement of goods and services, are enshrined in the Lisbon Treaty, these are all too often denied to people with disabilities.
The campaign has made a number of demands including adoption of a European Accessibility Act which would lead to common accessibility requirements across the EU covering goods and services. EDF is asking for a Directive to make this legally binding. The campaign’s other principle request is a European Mobility Card facilitating travel between Member States for persons with disabilities.
EDF is currently producing the Freedom Guide assessing Freedom of movement for persons with disabilities, identifying the barriers that they are currently facing, including a number of recommendations to policy makers.
