As we conclude this year’s World AMR Awareness Week, it is essential to reflect on the collective efforts to address this silent but formidable threat. Estimations are that AMR accounted for 1.2 million deaths in 2019. Lack of effective action could lead up to ten million deaths per year by 2050.
EPHA’s advocacy extends beyond this week, highlighting the need for cross-sectoral policies to regulate antibiotic use in both healthcare and agriculture. The One Health approach acknowledges the interdependence of human health, animal health, and the environment. Through effective collaboration, we can forge a resilient and sustainable future by preserving the effectiveness of antibiotics and antimicrobials.
AMR poses a threat to treating common infections and undermines medical progress. By fostering collaboration among healthcare professionals, veterinarians, farmers, environmental scientists, policymakers, and the community, we can develop a comprehensive strategy to combat AMR.
As we bid farewell to this dedicated week, let’s carry forward this momentum. The fight against AMR is ongoing, and EPHA remains steadfast in its mission to create a future where antibiotics are used responsibly.
Let’s safeguard the health of people, animals, and the planet!
