Food and agriculture priorities of the Italian Presidency of the EU

The Italian Presidency of the European Union has announced its political priorities in the field of food and agriculture to be focused on during the second part of 2014. Organic farming, a merger of the EU School Fruit and School Milk Scheme, works on the genetically modified organisms (GMOs) legislation, EU animal and plant health, as well as implications from the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) top the Italian agenda.

EPHA has been actively following the TTIP negotiations, including its potential impact on European farming, food and nutritional outcomes.

We contributed to the inception of the EU School Fruit Scheme, have been involved in its cross-EU implementation and have had our say on the proposed and adopted merger of the EU Fruit and Milk schemes in educational settings. Currently, we are monitoring national negotiations on the content of the schemes, in particular with regards to its eligible products, inequality aspect and accompanying measures.
