Today, EPHA and six other civil society organisations announce their resignation from the EU Platform for Action on Diet, Physical Activity and Health.
In a joint statement the organisations observe that the Platform, as currently constructed, is not fit for purpose and cannot adequately contribute to reverse obesity and diet-related non-communicable diseases (NCDs).
This decision follows many years of attempts to transform the functioning of the Platform to enhance its effectiveness and legitimacy, including a letter sent in April 2019 calling for an urgent, profound and meaningful overhaul to improve the Platform’s outcomes.
The statement further underlines the importance for continued structured dialogue with civil society organisations, and stresses the organisations’ commitment to engage constructively with the European Commission and Member States during the next legislature to ensure impactful responses for the benefit of the health and well-being of Europeans.
